Winning at tennis
The goal of this blog is to win at tennis. But I want to define winning differently. I have been too outcome-focused, and not enough process-focused.
And so by this, I want to focus on the process. What I did well, or not well. And I'll briefly review recent matches and what I did.
Saturday, played with Peter W ... Great guy, every good player. We rolled in the first set against Dan M and Billy B. Won 6-3 and I stayed within myself, hit smart shots, rarely hit the ball out. I held serve consistently.
I learned to get my toss out in front and hit the ball with confidence. I went down the tee without trouble.
We lost in the second set and then the third. I botched some short, easy balls when I tried to brush too much and dumped them in the net. I dont think I had my feet squared.
Some lessons from last Wednesday's lesson:
* Play more relaxed. I try too hard.
* Trust the racket and let it do the work
* Keep the toss in front of me, and short, and the serve will be fine
* Be quick on your feet - get where you need to be and stay there. Don't let the ball get into my body.
