Finally won on Sunday. ... William G and I played together and we lost the second set 6-4 after leading 6-2. We were down in the tie break 5-1 and 6-2 before winning 10-8. Whew, felt relieved. Tough night on Monday thought. Lost with Ken N 6-4, 6-3. Really could have won. We were inconsistent and it was a weird match. Other team stalled on my serve, complained when I tapped the ground with my racket, groaned that I needed to get a ball that had rolled to the other court, didn't get a ball that went out of bounds while we were serving. I just let it get to me. I said very little in the second set. I must say I acted like a jerk. Got very upset. I dont want to be like that any more. I just dont want to be the guy who acts like that. I dont want tennis to be that important because it's not.

Split sets tonight playing singles with Wm Gupton. Was down 4-2 and won the first set 6-4. Served well. Erratic forehand. Lost the second 6-3. Bit distracted that AH was there, then realized, wait, she's the priority. What a great kid. Still working on focusing on the process, not the outcome. Bend knees, on toes, low to high, etc. Process ... process ... process.. .. Oh, and have fun.

Winning at tennis

The goal of this blog is to win at tennis. But I want to define winning differently. I have been too outcome-focused, and not enough process-focused. And so by this, I want to focus on the process. What I did well, or not well. And I'll briefly review recent matches and what I did. Saturday, played with Peter W ... Great guy, every good player. We rolled in the first set against Dan M and Billy B. Won 6-3 and I stayed within myself, hit smart shots, rarely hit the ball out. I held serve consistently. I learned to get my toss out in front and hit the ball with confidence. I went down the tee without trouble. We lost in the second set and then the third. I botched some short, easy balls when I tried to brush too much and dumped them in the net. I dont think I had my feet squared. Some lessons from last Wednesday's lesson: * Play more relaxed. I try too hard. * Trust the racket and let it do the work * Keep the toss in front of me, and short, and the serve will be fine * Be quick on your feet - get where you need to be and stay there. Don't let the ball get into my body.
